To Berlin before May 1st, return after: now what?

Hi, we have tickets to Berlin for our family leaving on April 29th, and returning on May 5th. In the Q&A database it says -if I read the German text correctly- that you can get your money back for both directions. However, if I start the 'stornierung' process, it says that the May 5th tickets can not be refunded, because it's after April 30th. So the information seems to be invalid. Of course we have no use of return tickets if we can't even get to our destination at all. So now what..?

What kind of ticket did you buy? flexible fare / saver fare / super saver fare?

flexible fare: You can exchange or cancel your ticket free of charge before its first day of validity and get the money back.
saver fare: Until 1 day before the 1st day of validity: Fee of EUR 10. Refund issued as a voucher.
super saver fare: cancellation not possible

If you have a saver fare - you will get a voucher, if you have a super save fare you will get a voucher on goodwill:

"Tickets purchased up to 13 March for travel up to 30 April can be submitted until 30 June. You will receive a voucher refund."

"And a voucher is useless for us"

If you don't have a flexible fare ticket there is no other choice.

"Cancellation vouchers

  • are valid for 3 years after issuing
  • can be redeemed here: Travel Centres, DB agencies, bahn.com, DB Navigator and at DB ticket machines in Germany
  • are transferrable, i.e. you can give your voucher to someone else
  • may not be sold
  • cannot be exchanged for cash"

Exception: If your connection doesn't exist exactly as booked, you can return the ticket by writing an email to fahrkartenservice@bahn.de

Unfortunately only in German:
"Vor dem 1. Geltungstag der Reise können Sie die Fahrkarte kostenlos zurückgeben, da die Verbindung nicht mehr so besteht, wie gebucht. Bitte das Ticket nicht eigenenmächtig stornieren! DB/ch"

You gat a voucher istead of a money Refund. Did you book both tickets together (Same ordernumer) or did you book the seperatly.

The direct trains are cancelled. If you booked one of these, you should get your money back as zeka already mentioned in her last section.

If the trains do run but you have other reasons to cancel the trip and want to use the goodwill offer, you should fill in the following form: https://www.bahn.de/p/view/home/info/sonderkommunikation-...

If I remember correctly from other exeperiences, the automatic process does not work when the return leg is after April 30th.
