Berlin-Hamburg on the 30th early in the morning. Can we wait for the last minute? how far ahead should we book?

I need to buy one ticket from Berlin to Hamburg on the 30th early in the morning. Can we wait for the last minute or might the tickets run out? how far ahead should we book? Is one or two days ahead enough?

Hi, you can buy tickets right before you board the train. There isn't a limited amount of tickets for the trains between Hamburg and Berlin so it cannot be sold out.
However note that while a ticket guarantees you the right to board and ride the train, it doesn't guarantee you a seat. For this you need an extra seat reservation, and these can be sold out.
Finally, note that the closer you get to the travel date, the more the price for "Sprarpreis" tickets increases. The price for "Flexpreis" tickets is fixed and will not increase.

If you want to book a Sparpreis, it is advantageous to book as early as possible. No one can know in advance exactly how long a certain price will be available. You can book a ticket at any time. The later you do it the greater the probability that the low prices are sold out. With a Flexpreisticket, the price is independent of the time of booking. A flexible price can be booked up to 5 minutes before departure.

Now is a good time to book.

If you consider the price too high, you can search for a slower train by disabling IC and Ice trains. The system will show some direct Ire trains, for which tickets generally start at 14,90€ but cost 19, 90€ for the specified morning.
